   Robix Rascal Construction Set
robot

Robix Robot ArmThe Rascal robot from Robix is a programmable, customizable, servo-driven, desktop robot. The package comes with all the parts needed to build robots with grippers, sensors, and up to six joints. It comes with its own carrying case and includes instructions for eight different robots and a sample program for each. Or you can build your own robots and program them to do whatever you can think of! Software is for use with PC or compatible computers and is controlled through the computer's parallel (printer) port.

The system comes in a nice Tuff-Stuff toolbox that stores all the parts and tools. You get six servo-motors, two types of project bases, anodized aluminum struts, nylon connectors, a gripper hand, wiring, PC software, an assortment of tools, and an adapter box that connects the Rascal to your computer through the parallel port. The kit also comes with a video and a manual. Eleven projects are outlined in the basic kit -- everything from a slithering snakebot to a robotic arm to a golfer.

The robots are controlled through a console (Windows or DOS) program that is easy to operate, but sophisticated enough to allow macro programming for complex operations. The interface has outputs for the six servos and places to add your own switches, sensors, lights, and other electronics.

This robot construction set is designed expressly for use by educators, students, and hobbyists for DOS PC-connected interactive exploratory desktop robotics. The set is a reconfigurable, Erector-Set-like, plug-and-go, no-experience- necessary system that is nevertheless highly sophisticated.

The quality of the components and the versatility of the system are outstanding. This system is rugged enough to withstand ultralight industrial use for demonstrations and several companies are using it for demonstrations in labs.
